Hi All:

Come join David Tondreau, John Mahony, Sean Thrower, Bodo Bergmann, and
Joe Kronk from the OpenROAD development team and participate in the
Ingres development sprint being held June 14-16 in London at the Hilton
Metropole Hotole. We will focus on helping you develop new features in
the Empire project including both 4GL and 3GL (runtime) projects. For
those who have not heard of Empire, a description follows:

The primary OpenROAD open source project is "Empire" which stands for
the Enhanced Multi-Platform Interpreted Runtime Engine. Empire is the
open source version of the commercial OpenROAD product where community
members play a large role in the development of the technology.

Subject: UKIUA Development Sprint

Dear Colleague:

As you know, the annual UKIUA Summer conference is being held in London
on Tuesday, June 17, and will be free to attend again this year. The
venue is the Hilton Metropole Hotole, Edgware Road, London.

In conjunction with the conference, the UKIUA and Ingres Corporation are
organizing an Ingres development sprint (aka codefest, hackathon--see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackathon) to be run over the preceding
weekend. The sprint will happen in the same hotel as the UKIUA and we'll
start at lunchtime on the 14th, wrapping things up around mid-day on the
16th. Ingres Corporation have generously agreed to sponser 12 rooms,
breakfast and lunch.

The sprint will bring together some of the top Ingres development
talent, including Doug Inkster, Grant Croker, Ray Fan and others, and as
many interested community members as we can find, with the intention of
developing one or more significant new features. We will spend the
weekend brainstorming and coding, and then we will present the fruit of
our labour at the IUA conference.

If you are actively working on the Ingres code, or you merely want to
see what is involved, you are strongly encouraged to attend. To get more
information, or to register your intention to attend, please email me at
sprint2008 at iua.org.uk. We'll be allocating rooms on a first come first
serve basis.

Whether you decide to attend or not, please do forward this message to
everyone you can think of who may be interested.

Martin Bowes
